Major Billy Hall & Mater Dei Football

September 6, 2024
The You Were Worth IT Foundation accompanied Major Billy C. Hall to be the honorary Captain of the football team at Mater Dei, where Billy speaks to the team annually and enjoys attending home games.

Mater Dei earned the honor of wearing the 1st Marine Division "Blue Diamond" on their uniforms by working with military children at their annual summer football and cheer camp. The patch commemorates the division's sacrifices and victory in the Battle for Guadalcanal, where Billy made the amphibious landing with a rifle and fixed bayonet at only 16 years old! Amazingly, all but two of the players on the Mater Dei football team are older than Billy was at the time he made that landing.

Billy went on to fly 150 dive bomb and torpedo bomb missions during WWII. In Korea, he served as an Infantry and Communications Officer, earning a Bronze Star. He then volunteered to fly planes, and finally helicopters, delivering 75 to Vietnam before flying over 50 insertion, extraction, supply and medivac missions. Billy is believed to be the last living Veteran who enlisted before WWII and saw combat action in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam.

Mahalo to Mater Dei for hosting Billy -- Go Monarchs!
